Blowsion Surf Slam 2009 update On Friday 11nth of Sep it was practice and qualifying for Pro Am. All Pro Am Freeride will compete on Saturday. Pro and Pro Am racing will do two motos on Sunday. Pro Free ride will compete Sunday also. As soon as we have fresh news and photos we will upload them. Dustin Motzouris and his brother Tyron will compete in close course and Freeride too and both are sponsored by Monster Energy. Steve Webster of Kommander Industries sent us the pictures from Friday’s early morning preparations.

Saturday 12

The surf is big, rider’s attendance surprisingly good and lots of personal watercraft enthusiasts and ex-racers attended the Surfslam 2009 that was held on Tierra Del Mar Beach located just north of Pacific City Oregoncombines the second round of the IFWA Freeride World Championship Tour with the IJSBA Freeride World Cup and Motosurf Western Championship. Kommander Industries and Steve Webster made lots of work in terms of promoting the event as well bringing top riders at this surf race. beach, organized by Blowsion and

Ex-Ski racer and sponsor of Vasilis (www.jetskiworld.gr) Wayne Hoffer from Seattle reports on Saterday’s activity: “They didn't race today because the surf was too big, they did Freeride qualifying only.  The freeriders were struggling big time because of the big surf.  Dustin “The Motz” Motzouris hurt his right foot in Freeride and has been icing it all day.  It is very swollen on top. I don't know the extent of the injury and if he can race tomorrow, hopefully no broken bones. Mark “The Shark” Sickerling two times IJSBA Pro Freestyle World Champion had a bad day and sunk his ski, and he was riding with a broken finger.”

Sunday - Race day

Kommander Industries pilots ruled Pro Ski class with Dustin Motzouris winning Pro Ski in a class of his own and his brother Tyron closing the podium in third place. Dustin although being in pain he appeared on his ex-Factory Kawasaki Slippery white/green wet suit that remind to everyone that he was a Factory Kawasaki rider in the early 2000. Wayne Hofer reports for Motz brother: "I asked Motz about his foot and he said it hurt and was bothering him out there.  He thought he may have a broken bone.  Tyron sank his ski in the first heat but Kommander Ind.'s crew got it running again for moto 2." Steve Webster owner of Kommander Industries proved ones again that his heart belongs to racing and we expect to see the Motz brothers playing protagonistic role at the World Finals in Pro Ski. On the other hand, the big news of the event was Jordan Fielder’s come back in USA’s racing scene. After 2004 the young british rider did not have an adequate support to appear at the World Finals again. It was nice to see him in action and good shape and wearing his special 2004 white/red custom made Slippery wetsuit –since he finished second overall on his new RSR race craft- and we hope that we will see him in Havasu in October. Blowsion had painted his race craft ones again which featured the 2004 graphics with the huge #37 on each side. Jeff Troegner was another rider who appeared to be very fast on the surf. If he keeps that speed in Havasu the competition in Pro Ski will be intense.

Ross Champion won the 2009 Blowsion Freeride competition. After a great battle of huge tricks, Ross in a class of his own defeated Mike Serlin in final event. Frenchman Pierre Maixent took third place overall. Mark Gomez took the win in Amateur Class.

Pacific City Oregon to Host second round of
2009 IFWA Freeride World Tour and
IJSBA Motosurf Western Championship
September 11-13th 2009

For more information please visit www.blowsionsurfslam.com

The world’s greatest Watercraft Freeriders and racers will descend on Pacific City Oregon for the year’s top PWC surf event. The Blowsion Surf Slam combines the second round of the IFWA Freeride World Championship Tour with the IJSBA Freeride World Cup and MotoSurf Western Championship. The event will be held at Tierra Del Mar Beach located just north of Pacific City and is free to the public on this wide expanse of beach. This event marks a return to IFWA and IJSBA co-sanctioning events in order to bring the very best PWC athletes together at one venue.

The Blowsion Surf Slam will bring over 30 freeriders from around the world competing for a cash purse and points towards the IFWA World title and competing for the first IJSBA Freeride World Cup. The infamous Pacific Coast surf will boost riders over 20 feet in the air while performing tricks like backflips, barrel rolls and no handed landings. Joining them will be some of the best PWC racers in the world who will display high speed turns through a grueling buoy course all while challenging the unpredictable waves.

Current IFWA points leader and last year’s World-Title holder is American Ross Champion. When asked about his thoughts on the 2009 US location he said, “We are really looking forward to the Blowsion Surf Slam this year. We riders have been coming to Pacific City for the last 10 years for a private event. We are happy to be expanding the event this year and looking forward to the general public being exposed to the sport of Freeride.”

Spectators will also witness exciting personal watercraft racing with the IJSBA MotoSurf Western Championship. The top 20 racers in the country will battle it out in the challenging Pacific City surf. Multi-time IJSBA World Champion, Chris Macclugage is looking forward to the event. “ I am excited about the return of MotoSurf to the West Coast. The only racing I really enjoy is in the surf,” said MacCluggaage.

Freeriders will compete in a head to head double elimination format. A panel of profession judges will score them using 50% for their wave surfing and 50% for their aerial maneuvers. Racers will compete, in a multi-lap format; through a challenging buoy course that requires split second navigation while maintain speeds exceeding 70 MPH.

The Blowsion Surf Slam is part of the 5th year of IFWA Freeride World Championship Tour. Each stop on the tour features a beautiful tourist location along with the potential for large surf and impressive competition. The IFWA is the International Freeride Watercraft Association and the sanctioning body for the sport of Freeride. The IJSBA (International Jet Sports Boating Association) is the world’s sanctioning body for organized PWC competitions. The IJSBA has affiliates in more than 50 countries worldwide and each October, since 1982, holds the annual World Championships in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
